Liberated Light lands the spoils at Tramore Liberated Light (6/1) was the winner of the Racing TV Handicap Hurdle for trainer John Kiely and jockey John Gleeson. There was a steady tempo set throughout in tough conditions, but it was the 7-year-old son of Muhaarar who was in command near the line to win by 2 lengths, with the Philip Rothwell-trained Avandra in behind. It was a family success for jockey John Gleeson, as his mother Claire owns the horse, and they have enjoyed success in the past with the likes of Panda Boy and A Dream To Share. Speaking after the race, trainer John Kiely said: “He met one just a little bit better handicapped here the last day. “Thankfully the handicapper didn’t do him too much harm since. That’s what it’s all about, you need to be properly handicapped — fair. “There was a delay at the start last time in Wexford and the horse became a little bit disgruntled. “He was hanging around, I think he backed off the first a bit and he was in trouble from there. “Horses are like people, they can have days on and days off. “We’ll be back here in August.” Kiely has a long association with the Gleeson family, who were represented by three generations, the rider John, his father Brian and his grandfather Liam: “We’re together for 40 years. I was here for my first win in 1953, I was the groom!” (Quotes from Gary Carson)
