Libertarian produced a major surprise in the Group 2 Betfred Dante Stakes at York.

The 33/1 chance had been largely ignored in the market by the punters following a below par run at Sandown, but Elaine Burke's charge proved that run to be all wrong as he shattered the Derby aspirations of a number of his more fancied rivals.

Dashing Star lived up to his name by setting off at a fair rate of knots for the first half of the race with Trading Leather tracking the pace as Greatwood and Indian Chief sat some way off the early fractions.

As the leader predicatably came back to the field, many had chances but William Buick produced Libertarian up the far rail to take victory having looked under severe pressure in the early stages

Trading Leather kept on to be second with Indian Chief finding disappointingly little off the bridle to be third.

Sky Bet now go 20/1 about the winner in the Epsom showpiece and have pushed out Indian Chief to 33/1 and Greatwood 40/1.
