Logic retired to stud

Champion two-year-old Queen`s Logic has been retired to stud, it has been announced.

Trainer Mick Channon was preparing the filly for a tilt at the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood after suffering a number of setbacks earlier in the season.

The daughter of Grand Lodge was the winter favourite for the Sagitta 1000 Guineas but she was forced to bypass the event after she picked up a foot infection at the 11th hour.

Queen`s Logic was set to try to make amends in the Irish Guineas but again she was forced to miss the race after suffering from an infection.

The Jaber Abdullah-owned filly had just been stepped up in her work by Channon in order to prepare for Goodwood, but the handler revealed she has suffered a recurrence of the problem.

'She just gave a cough after a routine canter. We have scoped her and she has still got a lot of mucus on her lungs,' Channon told the Mirror.

'We had just started to do a little bit more with her, but it obviously hadn`t cleared up andit wouldn`t have been fair to train her with it.

'It is just a question of time - if she had two to three months off it is September by the time you get back and the season is over. There was the option to keep her in training at four but they have decided not to do that.'

Queen`s Logic became the first since Dead Certain in 1989 to complete the Queen Mary, Lowther Stakes and Cheveley Park Stakes hat-trick last season and she was awarded a rating of 122 in the International Classifications.

Classic hopes were high after she produced an impressive display on her seasonal reappearance in the Fred Darling Stakes and Channon admitted her retirement is a major disappointment.

He added: 'I am disappointed for the owner and I am disappointed myself, but I am really sorry for everyone in the yard. It is a big thing for a yard like us to have a star like her.'
