Longshot Ruby gives Sean O'Keeffe a brace Cathryns Ruby sprang a 28/1 surprise in the first division of the Jim Ryan Racecourse Services Handicap Hurdle at Wexford. The homebred daughter of Mahler, owned by Gerard and Con Berkery, tracked the leaders and hit the front two out before staying on well to score by half a length from We'llgowats. The eight-year-old, placed in a couple of maiden hurdles, had dropped 8lb from her initial handicap mark and was scoring here off a rating of 97. It was a second winner of the afternoon for Sean O'Keeffe who had won the third race on The Big Clubman. Winning trainer Pat Foley said: "She ran well in maidens but then disappointed and she's not the most straightforward filly to train. She has her issues, but when things are right, she's right.  "I thought dropping back in grade today to a 0 to 100 would have to give her a chance and I didn't mind not claiming off of her for that reason.  "I actually have to apologise to Alex Harvey because I was sure he was in Galway. Alex normally rides her but I put down Sean as he rides out at home as well. It was my fault, but Alex will be on her another day.  "She's out of this grade now but she'll go for something similar and I hope the ground doesn't get too soft.  "Gerard Berkery is from Tipperary but he had a horse at home I'd say around 15 years ago. We knew him from before and he rang me back at the start of the season asking would we take this filly.   "It's great that it has worked out and she will go breeding eventually. Hopefully we can get another win into her." Additional reporting by Donal Murphy
