There is not much Billy Loughnane has left to achieve in an exceptional 2026, but conquering America with a first Breeders' Cup triumph aboard Comanche Brave would very much be the icing on the most brilliant cake.

In becoming champion jockey for the first time, the 20-year-old has not only picked up a first Classic on a memorable 2000 Guineas afternoon at Newmarket, but also excelled on Bow Echo at both Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood with their joint success one of the highlights of the season.

Injury may have curtailed Bow Echo's own Breeders' Cup swansong as he sailed off into early retirement, while weight limitations mean Loughnane will surrender the ride aboard Juvenile Turf Sprint hope Libertango to Flavien Prat.

However, he still has a fine chance of making his mark Stateside aboard Donnacha O'Brien's thriving speedster, who heads into a mouthwatering clash with Wesley Ward's Bacio having claimed both the July Cup and Flying Five with Loughnane in the saddle.

This test is at the intermediate distance of five and a half furlongs and Loughnane said: “Comanche Brave was very impressive in the July Cup and followed up in the Flying Five at the Curragh. He's a very talented horse.

“The horse is very straightforward and has run over further, so I'm hopeful. Five and a half is probably his optimum trip. He Has plenty of speed, but he does his best work late.

“He has a king gate (in stall seven) and I'm very excited coming here with live chances. I hope I can break my Breeders' Cup duck. I'm only 20 years old and hopefully will go close on Saturday.”

Loughnane was in action at morning track work and added: “Libertango is in great form and I rode her out this morning. I think she's got an outstanding chance from a great draw (in three).

“I can't do 8st 7lb, but I'm sure I'll catch up with Flavien before the race.”
