Marnane hoping Jamesie strikes it rich

David Marnane believes Jamesie has what it takes to give him a second triumph in the Betfred Victoria Cup at Ascot on Saturday.

The County Tipperary trainer landed this prize in 2010 with Dandy Boy and Jamesie has the advantage of course knowledge.

The Kodiac gelding put up a fine performance when second to Eton Forever in the Buckingham Palace Handicap at the Royal meeting last June.

Marnane said: "He's an absolutely rock-solid horse. His form is very, very good. He was unlucky at Royal Ascot last year when he was drawn on the wrong side.

"In the September Handicap (at Leopardstown) he was never off the bridle as he got no run. His run in the Stewards' Cup last year was fantastic as six (furlongs) wouldn't be his trip, while at Newmarket it was bottomless but he still ran a decent race.

"He's more than entitled to win one of these big handicaps and he has run well at Ascot before, which is a big plus. If the race pans out, we're happy he'll run a big race.

"He usually needs a couple of runs every year but at Dundalk he was only beaten a short head and was a bit unlucky in running. It was very encouraging and I purposefully put him away after that to conserve his mark.

"The Victoria looks the ideal race for him. It's a very tough race but we won it a few years back with Dandy Boy."

Bubbly Bellini is the other raider from across the Irish Sea, with trainer Ado McGuinness expecting a decent show following an encouraging reappearance at Tipperary recently.

"He has improved since his run in Tipperary. It was his first run of the year so he will have come on a bit for it. He's in great old form and we are just hoping for a bit of luck," said the County Dublin handler.

"We picked it out maybe six weeks back so we let him run at Tipperary to put him spot-on for this race. We could do with a bit of rain."
