Martin pair set for trip to Roscommon Pat Martin’s recent winners Goodnite Irina and Very Smart are being aimed at Roscommon this month. Goodnite Irina, who is in foal to Aclaim, bounced back to form in an extended seven-furlong handicap at Leopardstown. First-reserve Very Smart landed a gamble at Down Royal when getting a run in a seven-furlong handicap just over a week ago. The trainer said: “Both go in seven-furlong handicaps on Monday week at Roscommon. “Goodnite Irina has gone up 6lb, which is probably fair, and she goes for the fillies’ only handicap. “I think Roscommon will suit her with the long straight, and she will be going right-handed — like she did when she won in Down Royal (in June last year).” Martin is hitting form, with three winners from his last eight runners, but he is not targeting this week’s Bellewstown Festival. “If Aspen Belle doesn’t run (on Thursday) Bellewstown could be very quiet for me, just with when it falls,” said the County Meath trainer. “She would want a drop of rain and is unlikely to go. “She is only 15.3hh and carried 9st 11lb in Sligo (when a beaten favourite just under two weeks ago), but we felt we had to go there. It came too soon after her win in Cork (four days earlier).”
