McEvoy strikes in opener Kerrin McEvoy struck first gold for the Rest of the World team as he steered Secretinthepark to victory in the opening event of the Shergar Cup at Ascot. The five-furlong Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Dash provided an exciting start to the competition as Green Door was sharply away with McEvoy content to settle his mount, who was sent off a 5-1 shot, on his heels. As Green Door began to toil inside the final two furlongs, McEvoy kicked on with Pat Smullen producing Dutch Masterpiece to challenge while Hayley Turner was just hitting top gear on Justice Day. However, McEvoy's mount found a little extra to hang on by a short head from Dutch Masterpiece with three-quarters of a length back to the third Justice Day. McEvoy said: "He did it well and fair play to Robert (Cowell, trainer) who said that the horse was in good form. "We did our own thing for the first furlong and half but Jamie (Spencer on Green Door) took it to the two-furlong mark and then we made our way home from there. "It's a great start to the day."
