Trainer Ado McGuinness is aiming his progressive sprinter Nikki Swango at Newcastle’s big Good Friday fixture, after the five-year-old’s second-place finish at that course a fortnight ago.

On her second stint with McGuinness, Nikki Swango has won four times and finished runner-up thrice from seven starts this winter and recently met trouble in-running at Newcastle.

McGuinness reports “She ran very well at Newcastle and we’re very happy but Hollie (Doyle, jockey then) rang and said she was disappointed to get caught in a pocket and didn't get out. I don't know whether we would have beaten the winner (Stateira), but we would have been a lot closer.

"The handicapper hopefully won't have touched us and I think we have a race organised in Lingfield, for much the same prize money. We are then looking at Good Friday for a mares' race at Newcastle."
