Sunday Tipping: 'it is hoped he might relish these underfoot conditions and start the new campaign on a winning note'

A double-header in Ireland on Sunday with earlier starting times after the weekend clock change sees Galway getting underway at 12.32 and Wexford beginning at the slightly later time of 12.50.

Enniscorthy trainer Paul Nolan is usually a man to follow at his local track and he's mob handed in the 4yo 2m4f maiden hurdle in Wexford at 3.40pm with no less than five runners declared including four newcomers.

It'll be interesting to see how the market shapes regarding his quintet here along with his other runners on the card.

Emmet Mullins made the perfect start for AMO Racing when he saddled their first jumps winner in Dallas Star at Navan last month and he'll be hoping to add to that maiden hurdle win with another jumping recruit Square Necker in the same race.

The ex Kevin Philippart De Foy-trained grey won for Robson De Aguiar on the AW at Dundalk before going to Britain to win twice afterwards and is likely to be warm in the market to score on jumping debut.

However, Gordon Elliott may have other ideas, and a chance is taken with another jumping debutant Huntin Boots under champion Jack Kennedy electing to ride here over Galway.

This €160,000 Arkle Sale purchase finished runner-up in testing ground on debut in a Gowran bumper last January before running with credit in the Goffs Bumper last April.

With stamina in his pedigree (half-brother won over 2m5f, dam related to winners over 2m7f and 3m), it is hoped he might relish these underfoot conditions and start the new campaign on a winning note.

Kennedy will also fancy his chances aboard another Gigginstown runner Soul Asylum who returns to action for his hurdling debut in the William Hill Challenge Series Maiden Hurdle at 2.35pm.

Costing £280,000 after running second in a Dromahane point-to-point, he handled heavy ground when winning on racecourse debut in a Punchestown bumper last February and ran well after in a decent winners' bumper won by the unbeaten Adaboy Mushy (Declan Queally).

With another 20-25mm of rain forecast before racing on Sunday the ground should be bottomless, conditions that should suit this gelding who looks a real stayer in the making.

Prince Palace attracted good market support on his last visit to Galway and he deserves another chance in the 2m2f handicap chase there at 1.42pm.

Backed from 25/1 into 17/2, Philip Rothwell's runner had to settle for second place in the end when tried again over 2m6f but left on the same mark dropping down in trip could make amends for his supporters.

He won a valuable Navan 2m4f handicap chase for Pat Fahey on heavy ground off a 12lb higher rating in March last year and with the going likely to be similar if the expected rain arrives, he'll have conditions to suit in what looks an open affair.

    Sunday Staking Plan

  • 1.35 Wexford 1pt win Soul Asylum

  • 1.42 Galway 1pt each-way Prince Palace

  • 3.40 Wexford 1pt win Huntin Boots
