Ado McGuinness has spoken about the challenge of replacing money-spinning Pierre Royal who was recently sold to Australia.

The four-year-old gelding was a revelation in his short stay with the stable in winning twice - a 100 grand handicap at the Curragh and most memorably the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket on his final start in September.

He went under the hammer at Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale and made 375,000gns to continue his career down under.

McGuinness said: "Nobody likes a good horse like that leaving your yard.

"We've had a fantastic year with him. We bought him this time last year and we only raced him for six months really.

"We have to go and try and find another one now.

"We have (bought) a few, but I don't know whether I have anything the calibre of him - I hope I have!"
