Dylan Browne McMonagle cancelled out the earlier win of championship rival Colin Keane when partnering the Joseph O'Brien trained Glenroyal to land the featured Roscommon Rated Race.

Sent off 4/6f, the Ray Grehan owned gelding arguably had to work harder than most punters would have expected before ultimately landing a comfortable success.

Chasing leader Evangelic for the first mile or so, Glenroyal led over two furlongs from home. However, the three-year-old was quickly headed by Refreshment who looked to have gained the upper hand with a furlong left to race.

However, Glenroyal found plenty for pressure, regaining the lead over 150 yards out, before drawing away to win by five-and-a-half lengths.

Browne McMonagle said:- “He’s an improving horse. He races lazily and probably just does what he needs to do but he’s starting to sharpen up plenty with racing and the penny is dropping with him now.

“I thought I was going to have to make the running myself, knowing he stays so well, so I was happy when Adam went and gave me something to target.

“It set up lovely, he got through the ground well and he stays much further than this.

“When they didn’t get past me and had to ask the questions they were always going to struggle because he’s just going to outstay them.

“The last furlong he was only getting going.”
