McNamara scores notable Bath winner Last year’s leading Apprentice Jockey Emmet McNamara was on the mark with Ralph Beckett’s Ruby Alexander in the Lancer Scott Retail Nursery at Bath today. Ruby Alexander, McNamara’s only ride at the meeting, needed a strong drive to eventually force his way to the front close home, to provide McNamara with his fifth winner in Britain. Speaking over the phone following the win, McNamara’s father and well known Limerick trainer Eric McNamara stated “that’s a great win for Emmet as he is over riding out for a two or three week period with Ralph Beckett. We’ll see how he likes it before he makes any decisions on his future but that is his first winner for Ralph, from three or four rides.” McNamara was Leading Apprentice Jockey last year with 27 winners and has ridden seven winners already this term. Interestingly, McNamara is a former Champion Horse & Pony Rider and holds the record of 65 winners for one season - the record having previously been held by one Norman Williamson.
