After a first-race winner and then two final-flight falls when in contention, Donagh Meyler's afternoon at Fairyhouse went back upwards again when Come Walk With Me (9/2) took the BOYLE Sports Novice Handicap Steeplechase.

The seven-year-old had shown promise on numerous occasions over both hurdles and fences and here, in the Listed contest over two miles and half a furlong, he was closing on longtime leader Anotherway when that one crashed out three from home. From there, the winner stayed on well to score by 10 lengths from Moudan

Winning owner and trainer Eddie Cawley remarked “It’s a nice day to have a winner. We thought he’d run well but you never know coming here.

“He’s a nice horse, jumps well and he’ll have learned a lot from that. He was never in front before.

“We always knew he had a lot of ability and a lot of jumping ability.

Tom Gibney’s horse (Anotherway) was flying and I thought he’d maybe flown, but Donagh thought he had enough to reel him in but you never know until you do it. You don’t want to see any horse falling.

“We’ll look at something in Punchestown, all being well.”
