Millforce wins Galway feature for Cromwell & Staples The featured Glenman Corporation Handicap Chase at Galway produced a good finish with Millforce (12/1, from 13/2 before the off) coming out on top for trainer Gavin Cromwell and 7lb claimer Eoin Staples. Market leader Bal Kauto improved to lead at the last but couldn't get away from Millforce as they hit the rising ground with Ballybawn Belter also getting into contention in the straight. Staying towards the far side, the Workforce gelding led a furlong out and stayed on well to win by half a length and the same from Ballybawn Belter and Bal Kauto. It was a first win over fences for the handicap debutant who is a dual winner over hurdles. "He wears cheekpieces for a reason as he doesn't do a lot when he is in front or doesn't travel at times," said Staples. "I got a lead today and he jumped brilliantly but I didn't want it to turn into a sprint and going down into the dip, I couldn't go any harder. To be fair, he ground it out well and three miles would also suit him." Additional reporting by Thomas Weekes
