Molloy on the mark again in Australia

Bobby Molloy rode his third winner of the Australian tour when Classic Benbara got up in the last 100 metres to beat Tom Ryan´s mount Conzeal and favourite Meadow in the CIP Australia vs Ireland Hurdle at Sandown yesterday.

On a heavy track, with snow forecast for later in the day, Classic Benbara collared the other pair from the last flight and topweight Conzeal, conceding 5 kilos, had to give best on the run-in, beaten by weight and the ground.

Team manager Sean Lynch said that Molloy´s three winners marked a unique achievement for a visiting Irish jockey. ´He pulled very hard early but really came home well for me from the last.´ said Molloy, whose three winners have made him a big hit down-under.

There were only five runners in this handicap hurdle, Denis O´Regan finished fourth but Andrew McNamara´s mount was scratched. Three Irish riders against two Australians, maximum points for Ireland and with two meetings to go at Bendigo and Moonee Valley, the visitors can´t be beaten.

The race at Bendigo is a high weight invitational flat handicap and its back over fences at Moonee Valley with the feature race of the series, the $55,000 Waterford Crystal Steeple, for which there are 14 acceptors.
