Money Pours In For Shirocco Bookmakers are running scared of German-bred challenger Shirocco ahead of the Breeders´ Cup Turf this weekend. The Andre Fabre-trained colt, who will be ridden by Christophe Soumillon in the big race, ran a fine trial when finishing fast in fourth in the Prix de l´Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp earlier this month. And after Belmont Park was deluged with rain throughout Monday night and Tuesday, Shirocco soon became the best-backed horse of the week as punters latched on to his top-class form on testing ground. Bookmakers Ladbrokes cut him to 7-1, while William Hill are the same price having laid him steadily throughout the week. 'We were 10-1 at the start of the day and cut him to 9-1 and then 8-1 but still the money kept coming for him,' said Hills spokesman David Hood. 'While we haven´t seen an enormous amount of trade on the race, as you would expect with it still being a few days away, all of the money that we have seen has been for Shirocco.' ? PA Sport
