Caught close home when second at 40/1 on her debut at Fairyhouse in November, Moonverrin went one place better in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares (Pro/Am) Flat Race at Cork.

Settled in mid-division by Pa King, the daughter of Well Chosen made headway between horses early in the straight and joined issue with Owning Flower entering the final quarter-mile.

Ridden to lead over a furlong out, 5/2 favourite Moonverrin kept on well to account for that rival by a length.

Winning trainer Martin Hassett said of his wife Deirdre's five-year-old  “I’m trying to keep it low-key at the moment, but we think she’s special.

“We went to Fairyhouse and took on the geldings, and I wasn’t one bit surprised with how well she ran.

“The half-brother Mulcahys Hill was a serious horse, and I think she’ll match him.

“Pa wanted to go point-to-pointing with her as she’s absolutely dynamite to jump. She’s probably as good as what we’ve had in the yard.

“The plan is to go for the Mares Bumper at the Dublin Racing Festival and then Cheltenham or Aintree, or both.”
