Mr Vettori toughs it out on attritional ground Mr Vettori (3/1) showed good resolution to get the measure of front-running White Sand Beach in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden for juveniles over the extended mile at Gowran Park. He was in the box seat behind White Sand Beach in the final quarter of a mile with both horses well off the bridle on the attritional ground. White Sand Beach stuck to her task, but in the closing stages Mr Vettori got to grips with the even-money favourite and went on by a length and a-half close home for Jessica Harrington. Aidan O'Brien had the runner-up and the third home, Archers Bay at 22/1. Assistant trainer Kate Harrington said: “He ran a very good race the last day and the winner (Hawk Mountain) went on to win the Beresford. "We trained the mother and sister, who won her maiden up the Curragh, and he’ll be a lovely horse going a mile and a-quarter next year. "Shane (Foley) said he absolutely hated the ground and won despite it, so that always gives you a nice buzz.” This was Mr Vettori's third outing and he built upon a runner-up spot in a Curragh maiden at the end of August.
