Willie Mullins thinks he has a live contender for the Melbourne Cup with Ascot Gold Cup runner-up Simenon.

The champion jumps trainer saddled the Marju gelding as he narrowly lost out to Estimate in the top stayer's race last Thursday and now has his sights set on a trip down under.

Mullins previously ran Holy Orders in the 'race that stops a nation' back in 2003 and has been on the look out for another horse to represent his yard since then.

The weights are not released for the race until September and Mullins is hoping his charge is well treated by the Australian handicappers.

“It will be interesting to see if the Australians reciprocate the mark he gets in England,” said Mullins today at Gowran Park.

“Since Holy Orders I've always wanted to have another go at the Melbourne Cup, if I had one good enough.”
