Mulvany's Raider too strong for Roscommon rivals Wesley Joyce partnered the Michael Mulvany trained Arizona Raider to a hard fought win in the Irish EBF Auction Series Maiden at Roscommon. Sent off 11/4, the Sean Cahill owned colt tracked the pace in the early stages as Glenade and Dominic Street led the way. As the latter weakened over a furlong out, Arizona Raider was ridden to challenge Glenade for the lead. However, it took the eventual winner until the dying strides before getting up close home for a three-quarter-length verdict. “We were confident enough coming today, we were just afraid of the ground. He wants nice ground,” said Mulvany. “His form is rock solid and he’s improving all the time. “The dream was, with Sean, that we’d go to Royal Ascot. Whether we go or not now is another thing. “We’ll make a decision and he’d probably go to the Coventry if he was going there, I think that’s the only race that suits him. “Wesley said he sat off them a little and I thought Billy had actually slipped them but he got back up and showed a good turn of foot. He’s a good honest horse. “He’ll keep improving, he’s a big strong horse.” (Quotes by Gary Carson).
