Johnny Murtagh is hopeful that his Fort Knox can win the Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh this weekend.

The multiple Group One-winning jockey has been assisting Tommy Carmody for the past couple of seasons, but has now taken over the reins at his Curragh yard and he has his first runner in a Classic on Saturday.

Fort Knox was bought by Sheikh Mohammed after his impressive win in a trial at Leopardstown and will run in the famous maroon and white silks at the weekend.

Former owner Andrew Tinkler will still be represented in the race after he paid the supplementary entry fee for Ask Dad.

Murtagh told At The Races: "He's got a good turn of foot so if it is good ground I'm hoping that will be to his advantage.

"There's no shortage of opposition and it will be a quality field but we'll concentrate on our horse and he's going well.

"He is similar (to full-brother Dubawi Gold). He was second to Frankel a couple of times and hopefully this fellow can run to a similar level of form that's good enough to win the Irish Guineas."

Speaking about Ask Dad, Murtagh said: "He's not a pacemaker he'll run on his merits. He has to step up but we think he will and stepping up to a mile will be to his advantage."
