Murtagh wins English Lincoln

Sweet Lightning was a smooth winner of the William Hill Lincoln at Doncaster today, under Johnny Murtagh.

As in the Spring Mile earlier on the card, the finish was fought out by runners racing by the stands' rail and the Michael Dods-trained winner always looked to be travelling best.

He was driven to the front inside the final furlong and ran on to score by two-and-a-half lengths from Brae Hill, who fared best of the Richard Fahey sextet.

It was fully six lengths back to Dubai Hills in third, and he was first home on the far side, with Axoim fourth.
