Very consistent since joining Johnny Murtagh from Charlie Hills' yard last year, Lady Pagasa (11/2) deservedly got her head in front for the first time in the Treo Eile Handicap at Fairyhouse.

Touched off by a short head on her previous start at Leopardstown, she came out on the right side of a photo-finish this time.

Ben Coen produced her to challenge inside the final furlong and she edged past Comfort Line close home before being joined on the line by Irish Rumour The photo revealed that Mrs Joan Keaney-Dempsey's homebred was up by a nose and the same from Irish Rumour and Comfort Line.

“I think she deserved it. I thought she was beat on the line but Ben said she just hit a good stride and had her head down on the line,” said winning trainer Murtagh.

“She’s been second so many times and it helped her being in the middle today, she loves that.

“I’m delighted for the owner Joan as she’s persisted, she had her through the winter. I thought that might be the end of it but she brought her back again this year.

“She’s a very well-bred filly so it means a lot for her to win and that could be it for her now as she’ll go breeding.
