Two weeks on from the success of King Christoph at Thurles, owner Sean Greaney landed another two-year-old winner as Nation Blaze took the opening 1xBet.ie Supporting October Racing Irish EBF Maiden at the Curragh this afternoon.

Trained by Andy Slattery and ridden by his son Andrew, the well-supported 5/2 favourite struck for home over a furlong out to beat the Robson De Aguiar-trained 50/1 shot Rejoinder by a length and a half with Eoghan O'Neill's 200/1 chance Sharf Ardad a neck away in third place.

“We thought he was a very good horse early in the season, it took him a long time to come to himself,” said the winning trainer.

“He actually had a very good run in the ‘Million', he was drawn on the wrong side of the track. He was there a furlong down but probably just didn't get home over seven in that ground.

“I'd say where he was drawn you could mark up another five lengths on that.

“He's a grand horse and at least he's coming together a bit now. We thought he was a nice horse early on.

“That's it for the year now with him. We're two from two this year for the man that owns him.

“He bought two two-year-olds this year. He bought a few fillies that didn't work out and hadn't a winner for four years until King Christoph won at Thurles.”
