Nifty springs 66/1 shock on first start for Lavery Miss Nifty became the second massively priced winner at Naas this night when run out a cosy winner of the Fox Dunlavin Apprentice Handicap at odds of 66/1. The Far Above filly, making her first outing for Sheila Lavery, was held up towards rear early on in the ten furlong contest by Yudish Geerdharry. She swooped into the lead on the outer passing the two furlong pole and kept on well in the closing stages to post a convincing four length success. The winner had scored on her debut as a two-year-old in England last June but had failed to build on that early promise, until today. Lavery said:- “She had been running over five, six and seven in the UK and when she came to me I thought she needed a bit of a trip as she has a big, long stride.   “She isn’t keen at home but when she jumped today she was keen and Yudish gave her a thoughtful ride. He took a pull, slotted her in behind and then when she came off the bend he gave her a kick and she probably reacted a bit quicker than he thought.   “I’m absolutely thrilled for her owner/breeder Albert Conneally. It’s the second horse he’s had with me and I couldn’t win with the other one so I’m delighted to have done something for him.” (Quotes by Alan Magee)
