O'Brien runs two at Lingfield

Aidan O'Brien runs both Captain James Cook and Don Carlos in the totesport.com Derby Trial at Lingfield on Saturday.

The Ballydoyle handler bids to win the Group 3 for the third successive year after Alessandro Volta (2008) and Age Of Aquarius (2009).

"Captain James Cook ran a good race in Dundalk last time out, even though he didn't win very far we were very happy with his run," O'Brien told www.coolmore.com.

"Don Carlos wasn't as forward as we had thought the last day in Newmarket but we think and hope that he has come forward since then."

Sir Michael Stoute's Desert Myth takes the lofty step up from maiden company.

The colt made a belated winning debut at Newmarket last month which saw him earn quotes of around 25-1 for the Investec Derby.

Owned by Saeed Suhail, whose colours were carried to victory by Kris Kin in the Epsom Classic in 2003, he has been re-routed to Lingfield after being taken out of Friday's Dee Stakes at Chester.

"Everything has gone well since Newmarket, where I thought he was quite impressive for his first start," said the owner's racing manager Bruce Raymond.

"It was only a maiden race but he won very well and Sir Michael wouldn't have entered him in this if he thought he was just a handicapper.

"I don't know if he's quite as good as Kris Kin yet, but the potential is there and hopefully he'll run very well."

Hot Prospect bids to step up on his pleasing reappearance when third to Coordinated Cut and Ameer in the valuable Tattersalls Timeform 3-Y-O Trophy at Newmarket last month.

His trainer Michael Jarvis expects the son of Motivator to make his presence felt in this Classic trial.

"We were encouraged with his first run. It looked quite a strong race," said Jarvis.

"He looks as though he'll get the trip all right. The ground shouldn't be a worry and we're hopeful of a good run.

"He seems to be a little more relaxed than he was last year."
