Michael O'Callaghan is confident Military Angel will soon enjoy her day in the sun following another admirable effort in defeat at Killarney on Monday.

The American-bred filly finished out with the washing in the Irish 1,000 Guineas in May, but has benefited from having her sights lowered since, turning in three good runs.

She was a clear second in the Listed Cairn Rouge Stakes on Monday and O'Callaghan believes there is still plenty of improvement in his three-year-old.

"I was a pleased with how she ran, but a little bit disappointed she didn't manage to get her head in front again," said the trainer.

"She was probably a little bit unlucky with the way the race was run as she was left in front two furlongs down and was probably just in front too long.

"She's shown she's that class and I'm sure she'll pick up a Listed race somewhere along the line this year. She just hasn't had the rub of the green.

"There isn't a lot for her the next couple of weeks, so she might have an easy time now and we'll look towards an autumn campaign.

"She's still a shell of a filly and I think she'll progress plenty yet, she'll be back next year hopefully and I think she could be Group-class in time."

Another filly for whom O'Callaghan has high hopes is Letters Of Note, who made the talented Toscanini pull out all the stops in a conditions race at Naas earlier in the month.

O'Callaghan said: "I was delighted with her as it was her first run over six furlongs and it was a great effort to run Toscanini to a neck.

"I think we'll stick to six furlongs for the time being and the plan is to go back to Naas next week, all being well.

"She's another filly who should improve plenty and is something to look forward to next year."
