Olympic Glory and Richard Hughes just held on from Birdman to win the Group 2 32Red.com Superlative Stakes at Newmarket this afternoon.

Richard Hannon's juvenile had finished runner-up last time in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and showed a good attitude in the very testing conditions.

He had a handy advantage approaching the final furlong and seemed set to score cosily but was closed down all the way to the line by the hat-trick seeking runner-up.

A diminshing head was the margin at the line with Maxentius back in third as the winner was given a quote of 20-1 by Sky Bet for the 2013 2000 Guineas.

Having won on his debut at Goodwood in June, Olympic Spirit found the Jim Bolger trained Dawn Approach three parts of a length too good on his next start in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.
