Options open for Some Neck The rejuvenated Some Neck is being aimed at the Cheltenham festival in a bid to follow up on his cross country success at the venue in December. On his third start for the John McConnell yard, the Yeats gelding, equipped with first-time cheek-pieces, led in the last stride then to short head Defi Des Cares. Rider Ben Harvey fell foul of the whip rules on that occasion, when the former Willie Mullins runner won his first race since November 2018. The grey has now seemingly found his niche in this arena but his next race could see him revert to competition in a conventional chase. “Some Neck will go for the Cross Country race at the Festival and I’m not sure yet where he will go before then,” said McConnell. “There is a race at Musselburgh at their Trials meeting and there is also the Eider at Newcastle but we don’t know at this stage if we will be able to travel over for those races. “Another option would be over the banks at Punchestown but I would also like to get him into the Grand National so that is in the back of my mind as well.”
