The Irish Racing Industry fundraiser in aid of Crumlin Children’s Hospital has proved a great success with over 30,000 euro pledged in the space of just three weeks.

A series of races titled the Irish Racing Industry Fundraiser for Children’s Health Foundation Crumlin in memory of Pat Smullen were run at Cork, Fairyhouse, Limerick, Dundalk, Clonmel, Navan and Punchestown to raise awareness of the charity.

Jockey’s physiotherapist John Butler has been instrumental in organising the fundraising campaign and said, “We have reached our initial target with some money over to get presents for the children.

“Over 200 people have donated to the fund from a fiver to a tenner and upwards. The charity will provide a vital piece of equipment (spinal cell saver autotransfusion device) for the Hospital.

“There are so many people to thank in this great fundraising effort but especially Antoinette Kelly in Crumlin and racecourse announcer Paul Quish. Barbara White has also looked after the media end of things in HRI.

“Elaine O’Farrell from Race Displays has also played a big part in publicising the series of races at the tracks, and also thanks to all the racecourses that named races for the charity on their cards.”
