Monbeg Park gained a deserved win in the featured QuinnBet Handicap Chase at Leopardstown today after some solid placed efforts.

The Sean Doyle-trained gelding had hit the woodwork on his last four outings, most recently when third at the Dublin Racing Festival early last month.

He went to post 4/1 favourite today and was produced to lead at the last by Tiernan Power Roche.

Despite going to his left there he soon opened up a clear lead and had plenty in the tank to hold the finish of Tyre Kicker by two-and-a-half lengths.

The runner-up looked to be slightly impeded by the winner at the final fence, making a mistake, before staying on again in the closing stages.

Power Roche said afterwards:- “He jumped very well and travelled a lot better today.

“He quickened up well and had a bit left up his sleeve

“Monbeg Park is a bit quirky. The last day, he ran well, finishing third and swished his tail a bit. I was talking to the boys, who are point-to-pointing today, and they said leave your stick until last resort and try not to interfere with him too much. He has loads of ability.”

There was a sting in the tail for Power Roche as he picked up a four day ban for careless riding.
