Party Playboy has been ruled out for the season after suffering a leg injury.

Trainer Tony Mullins was looking forward to a big season with the German-bred gelding but plans have been shelved.

The five-year-old ran a cracker to finish second in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket in mid-October and was a winner when switched back to hurdling at Fairyhouse late last month.

Mullins had been eyeing the Pertemps Qualifier series with his charge before discovering the injury.

The trainer said:-“Unfortunately he’s out for the season. He came home and we thought he was perfect but the second day cantering he had some tendon trouble.

“He has a couple of pins in a pastern which he fractured as a young horse but this is the other leg now.

“We had no worries and were absolutely shocked when we discovered it. The first day riding out he was perfect and then the second day we saw this.

“We had great plans to aim at the Pertemps Finale and go for a qualifier in Carlisle.

“We think it’s very curable and it has settled down beautifully the last three or four days but it's definitely going to be next October before we see him.

“The vet is confident that he will come back.”
