Ger Lyons and Colin Keane have both managed to plunder recent successes in the Group 3 Anglesey Stakes at the Irish Derby Festival and the pair will be aiming for more Group 3 glory with Suzie Songs on Saturday afternoon at the Curragh.

The filly started her career with a win at Cork just 15 days ago and that form has a pleasing look about it.

The daughter of Starspangledbanner debuted at Cork in the middle of this month, tackling a six-furlong maiden in the hands of Keane on good ground at the Mallow venue.

The six-time champion jockey allowed her to settle into the contest before calling on her effort after halfway.

They were into second a furlong from home and then outbattled Donnacha O'Brien's Havana Anna in the run to the line, with the pair a long way clear of Skydance in third for Willie McCreery.

Suzie Songs and Havana Anna were prominent in the market along with Skydance and a dive into the formlines suggests it was a more than pleasing first run.

Havana good look at the form

Havana Anna's debut run had come at Navan (6f, good) in May and saw her finish third at odds of 10/1 behind Gstaad and True Love in what has proved to be a hot maiden.

The Ballydoyle-trained front two duly won the Coventry Stakes and the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot on their respective next starts - both Group 2 events.

Havana Anna was denied by Suzie Songs at Cork, narrowly, before heading for Naas in midweek where she won a 5f maiden of her own in fine style by six-lengths.

All of which lends itself to the idea that Suzie Songs is going be well above average.

Lyons is seeking to win the Anglesey Stake for the third time in five years. The Co Meath ace saddled Beauty Inspire to win in 2021 under Keane and last year they obliged with Babouche.

Keane, meanwhile, can boast an even better record as he also partnered Kairyu for Michael O'Callaghan in 2023 ensuring his ride on Suzie Songs will see him bidding to make it four wins in five years in this Group 3 contest.

The Moyglare Stud-owned youngster is one of two fillies in the line-up, joining She's Too Kool for trainer Claire O'Connell, and they will get 3lb from their trio of male rivals.

    Flushing Meadows the key rival

Standing in the path of Suzie Songs looks to be Flushing Meadows as Aidan O'Brien attempts to serve a winner with the Wootton Bassett colt.

The Coolmore-owned newcomer made his winning debut over course and distance at the Curragh back at the start of June.

Ryan Moore was on board and they were edged for favouritism by another Lyons/Keane Moyglare contender in Evening Blues.

He did too much in front and folded, while Flushing Meadows was briefly niggled two furlongs from home before powering on to win by a length-and-a-half with next-time-out Down Royal maiden winner North Coast in third.

There will be improvement to come, in all probability, but Suzie Songs' form is at least as good and she gets that 3lb allowance now.

Lyons and Keane will be hoping this Group 3 is a stepping stone to bigger and better things for an exciting filly.
