True Love beat Precise at Newmarket in the 1000 Guineas when Ryan Moore rode Precise. He jumped ship to True Love in the Irish Guineas when Precise turned the tables, but stayed loyal to Precise when she confirmed the places at Ascot. Precise’s main rival according to the betting is Andrew Balding’s Blue Bolt, impressive when winning the Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot. Donnacha O’Brien’s Ballantina was making her seasonal return in the Coronation Stakes and was not beaten too far in fifth. She was successful at the Breeders’ Cup at the end of last season and is expected to improve. Karl Burke runs Evolutionist, second to True Love in the 1000 Guineas, rather than Fallen Angel, while the north has a second contender in Charlie Johnston’s Venetian Lace, one place behind Evolutionist at Newmarket. Jancis, second to Blue Bolt at Ascot, will meet her on 3lb better terms. Venosa, the likely Ballydoyle pacemaker, completes the field. In the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes George Scott’s Libertango aims to follow up her impressive display from the Albany Stakes. Senorita Bonita steps up in trip for Simon and Ed Crisford having finished second in the Queen Mary.
