Prendergast eyes up Leopardstown targets Patrick Prendergast could be represented in both the 2,000 Guineas Trial and the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown on Sunday by Canary Row and Sugar Boy respectively. Canary Row mixed it with the likes of Big Break, Dawn Approach and Havana Gold last season, running with great credit, while Sugar Boy ended the year in fine form, winning three on the bounce. "I took Canary Row away during the week to Gowran and I was very happy with him. He's rated 96, I think he's improved, I'll know soon enough. He's as tough as nails and is a hardy horse," Prendergast told At The Races. "I have him entered at Leopardstown and, provided I'm happy with him on Friday morning and there's sufficient cut in the ground, he'll take his chance there. "He's the kind of horse you'd have no problem running twice a week if you so choose. "His mother won over 12 furlongs and she's a Sadler's Wells mare. He had the speed to win over five furlongs but I'm expecting him to step up as the year progresses, to 10 furlongs, and we'll take it from there. "Sugar Boy is in the Ballysax and he won three on the trot last year which is hard to do in Ireland with a two-year-old. "He won his maiden at Galway and then beat a smart horse of Pat Flynn's called Designs On Rome at Tipperary and then won a Listed race really well at Leopardstown. The further they went the further he was going away from them. I think he's loaded with stamina. "The Derby trials are over 10 furlongs so he'll start in one of those, perhaps the Ballysax or we might wait for the Derrinstown, but I'm really looking forward to seeing him over a mile and a half."
