Prizeland and Machadadorp complete good afternoon for Andrew Balding Andrew Balding celebrated a 1,832-1 four-timer at York after Prizeland stormed clear in the final furlong to win the British EBF & Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes and Machadadorp landed the closing British EBF Fillies’ Handicap. In the Listed Galtres Stakes, Ashariba was the first to show and towed them into the turn for home before the race began to take shape and as the runners drifted to the centre of the course in search of the better ground Oisin Murphy asked Prizeland (11-1) for her effort and took up the running. Capichera and Rhapsody gamely gave chase, but Murphy had too much horse under him and scooted clear on the run-in to win going away by three and a quarter lengths from Rhapsody, with Capichera a short-head back in third. Anna Lisa Balding, assistant to her husband, said: “The ground was a little bit of a question mark, but Oisin got off her and said that is what she loves. “I think it’s very difficult at the moment because the horses aren’t conditioned to run on this ground. You can’t work them at home (on grass) so you’re hoping and looking at pedigrees and action. We had to ask the question and it’s been answered. “Andrew has had nice ideas for her, but we really needed to get this Listed win under her belt. “I think she’d stay a bit further.” Fresh from the Juddmonte International success with Item on Wednesday, Kalpana (10-11 favourite) had earlier landed the Yorkshire Oaks for the Kingsclere yard, with The Lost King (7-1) claiming the Sir Kevin Sinfield 7 In 7 Grand Finale Handicap. Machadadorp and Murphy, who was completing a treble of his own, chased down Woohoo inside the final furlong before extending away to come home two and a half lengths clear. “I’m really delighted,” Balding added. “Oisin just got off and said, ‘I can’t believe she didn’t win at Goodwood’, so I think the step up helped. “She travelled really well and I think the draw has made a big difference today, I think she was well-drawn in nine.”
