Trainer Declan Queally won Gowran’s Jack Duggan Memorial Handicap Hurdle in consecutive years on Saturday, as Custom Taylor (7/4f) made almost all to score under Michael Kenneally.

A Listed winner at Fairyhouse’s Easter festival on his previous start, the Dr Brid Corkery & Mary O'Connor-owned son of Malinas competed from a revised rating of 128 today and scored readily under his 7lb claimer, defeating Duty Bound by 9.5 lengths.

Declan Queally junior reported “Rocky’s Diamond (Stayers Hurdle-fourth) won this race for us last year although I’m not sure Custom Taylor is as good.

“For a horse who was cowardly when I rode him in a point to point, he has really grown in confidence and when he goes home to Mary and John O’Connor every summer, he comes back in looking great. He is easy to train and won fairly easily today, although I suppose he’ll get a good belt in the handicap.

“That’s two big handicaps he has now won so it will always get tricky now but I think he is a stronger horse this year. I’m delighted with him and he might make a nice novice chaser next year.”
