There was a notable win for Dungarvan trainer John Queally on the opening day of the Ebor Festival at York as 11/4 favourite Arcadian Sunrise, owned by his wife Miriam, took the Sky Bet Handicap over two miles.

The smart dual-purpose performer, four times a winner over hurdles including at Galway last month, was given a trademark waiting ride by Jamie Spencer before starting to improve from early in the straight.

The Arcadio gelding came with a sustained challenge in the final quarter mile and, having come through a gap between rivals, led inside the final furlong to beat Rajinsky by a length and a quarter.

Also successful over hurdles at Punchestown in May, this was a third win in his last four outings for the progressive 7-year-old who was having just his fifth run on the Flat as he defied a mark of 90 to take home the first prize of over GBP36,000.
