Quick double for Mullins as Alderwood delivers

Only nine of the eighteen declared runners for the Keg Security Tralee Maiden Hurdle faced the starter, with the David Casey ridden Alderwood coming out on top, to complete a quick double for his trainer Tom Mullins.

The gloss was taken off this contest with the defection of the 2010 Goffs Land Rover Bumper winner and Cheltenham Bumper seventh Divine Rhapsody, due to the ground, but the winning 2/1fav had no problems with the surface as he raced to a four length success over Eyre Apparent.

It looked as if a major battle between the first two home was about to begin after the last but the Dessie Hughes trained runner-up stumbled badly and the winner capitalised on his misfortune and raced away for a comfortable success.

The winning trainer said afterwards: "Its great to be back in the winners enclosure so quick. This fellow learned his job on heavy ground during the winter. We have no immediate plans for him now."
