Cian Quirke bagged a quick double at Limerick this afternoon when Midnight Eagle sprang an 18/1 surprise in the Event Trax Handicap Hurdle.

Aengus King ’s charge had finished mid-division over three furlongs further at the track nine days ago.

She travelled strongly to join front-runner Cramers Valley turning for home today and was asked to assert going to the final flight.

The Wings Of Eagles filly galloped on well on the run-in to post a two-and-a-half length win.

"The change in going was a big thing for her although the last day she just wasn't sparking,” said King.

“She might have been in season but we didn't see anything but we could definitely see that she was a better mare coming here today. She had a serious-type of a run in Thurles previously.

"I bought her for a couple of thousand from Derek O'Connor as she just wasn't his grade, but she is mine!"

He added:- "You have to give Cian very little instructions he is so good and when a horse is beaten, he doesn't persevere for nothing."
