Racing cancelled at Dundalk Due to gusty winds caused by Storm Amy which continues to make an impact around the country, racing at Dundalk this evening has been cancelled The action was due to start at 5.20 but the first race was delayed and officials and stewards reassessed the situation at 5.45 before deciding that, due to deteriorating conditions, the meeting could not go ahead. Clerk of the Course Lorcan Wyer told Racing TV: "It was a yellow warning in this area and we've often raced in that, but conditions got worse in the hour before racing was due to start.  "We had some horses galloping before racing and the riders came to me and said 'this is tough'. They said, even in a bunch of five horses, there was significant movement sideways.  "It's particularly the gusty nature of the wind that we have tonight. We followed the normal protocols. We got the riders and trainers in, racecourse management, doctors and veterinary surgeons. "We kicked for touch a little bit, and delayed it a bit. "It's actually not bad around the ancillary buildings here but it's when you get beyond that, down past the furlong pole and around the bottom bend, where it's more exposed. That's where there's an issue." "All we ever want is for the horse and rider to come home safe. The riders had their say but ultimately it was the stewards who shared their concerns and made the call to cancel.  "I was speaking to Met Eireann and they said the gusts aren't going to ease until half-seven, eight o'clock which means it's beyond the stage where we could salvage the meeting. "I've no doubt the racecourse executive will be in touch with HRI first thing in the morning and will be looking at another day (to stage the meeting). I don't want to speculate but there may be some opportunity early next week for that to happen."
