Ralston on road to Irish Derby Ralston Road could have found the route to the Curragh for the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby after defying top weight in a handicap at Chester on Saturday. Trainer Pat Shanahan has his eyes on the Classic on June 29 after the Dylan Thomas colt followed up a Leopardstown success with a game effort on the Roodee. There is a chance Ralston Road could first take in a Listed event at Leopardstown. "He'll probably go for the Irish Derby," said Shanahan. "There's a race at Leopardstown on June 7, a mile-and-three Listed race, which is in the back of my mind, but we will have to see how he is over the next few days after Chester." Ralston Road was the second leg of a double for Shanahan at Chester, with Bethany Bay opening her account in a six-furlong maiden. This Dylan Thomas offspring was dropped in class after running with credit behind such smart types as Moth, Viztoria and Mizzava in her three previous starts this season. "I've nothing in mind for her at the moment. I think we might step her up in trip to a mile and she might get a mile and a quarter later in the year," said Shanahan.
