Red Cadeaux Comfortable Racing Red Cadeaux is reported to have had a comfortable night, with plans for surgery on the career-ending injury he suffered in the Melbourne Cup on hold for the moment. The nine-year-old was pulled up by Gerald Mosse in the closing stages of Tuesday's race after fracturing the medial sesamoid in his left-fore fetlock. He was taken to the University of Melbourne Equine Centre at Werribee and trainer Ed Dunlop tweeted on Wednesday: " So far so good. He had a comfortable night. Fingers crossed." Red Cadeaux, a three-time runner-up in the Melbourne Cup, has his leg in a cast and Dunlop's assistant Robin Trevor-Jones said there was no rush to operate on the popular gelding. "At the moment they're just holding fire on that," Trevor-Jones told www.abc.net.au. "Experts from around the world have said if you don't want to race him again, strap him up, let it heal naturally. "There's no rush to operate, but later they might feel they have to get the sesamoid back together. "Any injury like that, he's got to get through it, but it's more brightness than dullness. "There's not a lot anyone can do. Time is a great healer." Dunlop also saddled Trip To Paris to finish fourth in the Group One but he was struck into during the race and also lost a shoe. "It wasn't a great Melbourne Cup for us but as long as the horses are OK, we'll live to fight another day," Trevor-Jones said. "The doctor said his leg will be perfectly OK but we've just got to keep the infection out and make sure there's no bruising in the tendon as well. "Whether he goes on to Japan or Hong Kong or whether he goes home next week to England, that's a decision for the trainer."
