Jockey Davy Russell has been fined €1,000 over his refusal to fulfill his final two rides at Clonmel on 29th September at a referral hearing which took place at Punchestown on Wednesday.

Russell was previously suspended for a total of 17 days over related incidents on the same day. The rider had first picked up a 3-day suspension for improper riding but was then slapped with a further 14 days for his behavior in the stewards room.

Senior Turf Club Medical Officer Adrian McGoldrick gave evidence at the referral regarding conversations he had with the rider both at Clonmel and the following day.

Russell said he deeply regretted his actions and had personally apologised to all parties for what he had done.

The Turf Club took into account the rider's "genuine remorse for his actions" when arriving at the penalty of a fine of €1,000.
