Robbie Power discusses his rides at Cheltenham Saturday BoyleSports horseracing ambassador Robbie Power gives his analysis of his two rides at Cheltenham on Saturday. 2pm Cheltenham — Western Approach A very competitive handicap chase to open the card and an interesting race. Western Approach is a horse that I won a novice chase on in Exeter a couple of seasons back but he’s never really produced his best form over fences. Last season he was twice second to Paisley Park over hurdles so on his hurdles form he’s very well handicapped and if he can repeat that form he’ll take plenty of beating. He hasn’t produced that form over fences yet but the ground is getting soft at Cheltenham, that should suit him and hopefully he’ll have a good chance. It is a very competitive race and there’s plenty of horses in there with good chances but hopefully he can do a job of his mark of 140 which I think compared to his hurdles mark is very lenient. 4.55 Cheltenham — Slate House Slate House is a horse I’ve won on before at Cheltenham. He had some very impressive novice hurdle form before that tailed off. Things didn’t go right for him and he’s had a wind operation over the summer. I think he’s a better chaser than he showed last season. It’s a competitive race but he’ll handle the soft ground, that won’t be an issue to him. There’s some question marks about the likes of Pym and Secret Investor and Go Another One who I won on in Tipperary last year on very soft ground. Topofthecotswolds is probably the one we all have to beat but I think Slate House has a very good chance.
