Roe Angling For Cup Success

Dermot Weld is hoping for some cut in the ground to help Vinnie Roe give the Irish trainer his third success in the Emirates Melbourne Cup on Tuesday.

The seven-year-old, a four-times winner of the Irish St Leger, looks ready for his third crack at the Flemington showpiece after finishing second and fourth in two previous attempts.

'The ground is going to be important because he´s seven now and a little ease in the ground is a help to him.

It does get very fast there,' Weld told At The Races.

'Providing the ground´s safe he is going to give a big, big account of himself.' The Curragh handler knows what it takes to lift Australia´s premier race having won with Vintage Crop in 1993 and Media Puzzle three years ago.
