Rose expected to really bloom next year

Connections of Rose De Pierre already have one eye on next season for the exciting filly following her impressive display at the Curragh on Sunday.

A beautifully-bred daughter of Dubawi out of the talented racemare Profound Beauty, the Dermot Weld-trained three-year-old justified cramped odds when making a winning debut at the home of Irish Flat racing in early May.

She was heavily backed once more in a handicap over the weekend and looked every inch a potential Pattern-race performer in taking her record to two from two.

Fiona Craig, breeding advisor to owners Moyglare Stud, said: "We were very happy with her.

"She's a lovely filly, but she is still very babyish, which is why we've not been thinking of anything too grand just yet.

"We think next year will really be her year, but if we can pick up a stakes race before the end of this season that would be great.

"We were thinking something like the Blandford Stakes over a mile and a quarter on Irish Champions Weekend might suit her, but Pat (Smullen, jockey) is adamant a mile is fine for her at this stage, which is a little bit of a surprise.

"I'm sure she'll get further in time, but it might be that we stick to a mile for the rest of this season and then step up next year.

"We're in no rush with her. She might rock up in something decent towards the end of the season, more as an experiment than anything, but let's see where we are nearer the time."
