Rubi heads for Ryanair

Robbie Hennessy's Rubi Light is set for a trip to the Cheltenham Festival after impressing in the Red Mills Chase at Gowran Park last Saturday.

The six-year-old ploughed through the mud to beat the likes of Roberto Goldback and Scotsirish in the Grade 2 contest and, providing conditions suit, he will now aim for the Grade 1 Ryanair Chase on March 17.

Hennessy said: "We were delighted with him and, to be honest, we were expecting a really big run as he was working really well. Still, it's easier said than done and it was great to see him go and do it. He's a brilliant jumper."

He added: "The first day he arrived from France we let him have a roll in a ring outside and after he'd had a roll, he got up and jumped a five-foot gate straight out of the ring.

"He ran well behind Golden Silver last month and he was short of a bit of work that day having been sick. I think if he'd have been right, he would have given Golden Silver a race that day.

"He seems to be improving the whole time and I think he'll go for the Ryanair in Cheltenham.

"The handicapper isn't going to be too kind to him and as long as the ground isn't too fast he'll go for the Ryanair. Good to soft ground would be all right."

The French import has been raised 8lb by the Irish handicapper to a new mark of 156 following the Gowran win.
