Sakhee gallops towards Ascot feature

Sakhee delighted connections in a racecourse gallop this morning and he remains on target to return to action in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot later this month.

The Godolphin five-year-old worked over 10 furlongs at Sandown and connections were pleased with the way the son of Bahri went with stable companions Sydenham and Atlantis Prince.

'He worked this morning and he worked very good. I was happy with his work with Sydenham and Atlantis Price,' trainer Saeed bin Suroor said. 'He was clear of them but he needed this work and will improve from this.'

Ground conditions are likely to be decisive in whether or not Sakhee takes his chance in the mid-summer middle-distance championship.

Bin Suroor added: 'We`ll see how the ground is in the build-up to the race. We also have Grandera in the race but I was very happy with him (Sakhee).'

Sakhee ended last year on top of the International Classifications following a season in which he ran away with the Juddmonte International Stakes and Prix de l`Arc de Triomphe, as well as going agonisingly close to landing the Breeders` Cup Classic.

However, he has not been seen on the racecourse since disappointing in the Dubai Word Cup at Nad Al Sheba in March when he finished third to Street Cry.

And Grandera has confirmed himself a top-class performer this term, his latest success coming in the Prince Of Wales`s Stakes at Royal Ascot.
